Core i5-10400F with RTX 4060: Bottleneck & FPS

The Core i5-10400F and RTX 4060 are well balanced at 1080p: about 73 FPS on average in AAA games at High settings, with 1% lows around 57 FPS. The RTX 4060 is the limiting part at every resolution, so the 6-core Core i5-10400F (LGA1200) still has headroom for about 88 FPS and room for a faster card later. In esports titles such as CS2 or Valorant expect around 215 FPS, enough for a 144 Hz monitor, while CPU-heavy games like Microsoft Flight Simulator drop to about 48 FPS with a 49% CPU bottleneck. Its 8 GB of VRAM is fine at 1080p but gets tight at 4K High. With ray tracing on, expect about 41 FPS at 1080p.

Core i5-10400F + RTX 4060: quick answers

Does the Core i5-10400F bottleneck the RTX 4060?

1080p: 14% GPU-limited. 1440p: 44% GPU-limited. UW 1440p: 55% GPU-limited. 4K: 69% GPU-limited. At 1080p the CPU keeps up, so this is a sensible pairing. A GPU-limited result is the normal, healthy state for gaming.

How many FPS does the Core i5-10400F with RTX 4060 get?

About 73 FPS at 1080p, 49 FPS at 1440p, 40 FPS at UW 1440p, 27 FPS at 4K in AAA games at High settings without upscaling. In esports games like CS2 and Valorant it reaches roughly 215 FPS at 1080p.

What is the best upgrade for a Core i5-10400F + RTX 4060 build?

None is needed at 1080p. The Core i5-10400F and RTX 4060 are well matched, so upgrade only when you want more FPS overall.
