Core i5-14600K with RTX 5090: Bottleneck & FPS

The Core i5-14600K and RTX 5090 are well balanced at 4K: about 118 FPS on average in AAA games at High settings, with 1% lows around 92 FPS. At 1080p and 1440p the Core i5-14600K becomes the limit (47% CPU bottleneck at 1080p); from UW 1440p upward the RTX 5090 takes over and the CPU has capacity to spare. In esports titles such as CS2 or Valorant expect around 356 FPS, enough for a 240 Hz monitor, while CPU-heavy games like Microsoft Flight Simulator drop to about 82 FPS with a 45% CPU bottleneck. With ray tracing enabled, expect about 70 FPS at 4K.

Core i5-14600K + RTX 5090: quick answers

Does the Core i5-14600K bottleneck the RTX 5090?

1080p: 47% CPU-limited. 1440p: 25% CPU-limited. UW 1440p: balanced. 4K: 20% GPU-limited. At 4K the CPU keeps up, so this is a sensible pairing. A GPU-limited result is the normal, healthy state for gaming.

How many FPS does the Core i5-14600K with RTX 5090 get?

About 150 FPS at 1080p, 148 FPS at 1440p, 143 FPS at UW 1440p, 118 FPS at 4K in AAA games at High settings without upscaling. In esports games like CS2 and Valorant it reaches roughly 356 FPS at 4K.

What is the best upgrade for a Core i5-14600K + RTX 5090 build?

None is needed at 4K. The Core i5-14600K and RTX 5090 are well matched, so upgrade only when you want more FPS overall.
