Core i7-13700K with RX 9070 XT: Bottleneck & FPS

Paired with the RX 9070 XT, the Core i7-13700K delivers roughly 119 FPS at 1440p (1% lows ≈93) in modern AAA games, which our model rates as “well balanced (GPU-bound)”. At 1080p the Core i7-13700K becomes the limit (14% CPU bottleneck at 1080p); from 1440p upward the RX 9070 XT takes over and the CPU has capacity to spare. In esports titles such as CS2 or Valorant expect around 358 FPS, enough for a 240 Hz monitor, while CPU-heavy games like Microsoft Flight Simulator drop to about 82 FPS with a 46% CPU bottleneck. Ray tracing costs this AMD card more than an equivalent NVIDIA GPU: about 60 FPS with RT on at 1440p.

Core i7-13700K + RX 9070 XT: quick answers

Does the Core i7-13700K bottleneck the RX 9070 XT?

1080p: 14% CPU-limited. 1440p: 19% GPU-limited. UW 1440p: 32% GPU-limited. 4K: 51% GPU-limited. At 1440p the CPU keeps up, so this is a sensible pairing. A GPU-limited result is the normal, healthy state for gaming.

How many FPS does the Core i7-13700K with RX 9070 XT get?

About 145 FPS at 1080p, 119 FPS at 1440p, 101 FPS at UW 1440p, 74 FPS at 4K in AAA games at High settings without upscaling. In esports games like CS2 and Valorant it reaches roughly 358 FPS at 1440p.

What is the best upgrade for a Core i7-13700K + RX 9070 XT build?

None is needed at 1440p. The Core i7-13700K and RX 9070 XT are well matched, so upgrade only when you want more FPS overall.
