Ryzen 5 5600 with RTX 3080: Bottleneck & FPS

The Ryzen 5 5600 and RTX 3080 are well balanced at 1440p: about 86 FPS on average in AAA games at High settings, with 1% lows around 67 FPS. At 1080p the Ryzen 5 5600 becomes the limit (16% CPU bottleneck at 1080p); from 1440p upward the RTX 3080 takes over and the CPU has capacity to spare. In esports titles such as CS2 or Valorant expect around 256 FPS, enough for a 144 Hz monitor, while CPU-heavy games like Microsoft Flight Simulator drop to about 58 FPS with a 47% CPU bottleneck. Its 10 GB of VRAM is fine at 1440p but gets tight at 4K High. With ray tracing on, expect about 46 FPS at 1440p.

Ryzen 5 5600 + RTX 3080: quick answers

Does the Ryzen 5 5600 bottleneck the RTX 3080?

1080p: 16% CPU-limited. 1440p: 17% GPU-limited. UW 1440p: 30% GPU-limited. 4K: 52% GPU-limited. At 1440p the CPU keeps up, so this is a sensible pairing. A GPU-limited result is the normal, healthy state for gaming.

How many FPS does the Ryzen 5 5600 with RTX 3080 get?

About 103 FPS at 1080p, 86 FPS at 1440p, 73 FPS at UW 1440p, 51 FPS at 4K in AAA games at High settings without upscaling. In esports games like CS2 and Valorant it reaches roughly 256 FPS at 1440p.

What is the best upgrade for a Ryzen 5 5600 + RTX 3080 build?

None is needed at 1440p. The Ryzen 5 5600 and RTX 3080 are well matched, so upgrade only when you want more FPS overall.
